In honor of Mr. Petit, MoW Structure Maintainer from West 4th Street, who passed away December 8th, 2010, we would like to take this moment to remember him. Those of us who had the great opportunity to know him will testify that although Mr. Petit is no longer with us he shall always be remembered in our hearts.
We would like to thank those of you who supported us in the struggle to stop John Samuelsen and the New Administration from going against your will by taking ten dollars a pay period from your paycheck.
We would like to bring you up to date with what has been happening since the charges we filed against John Samuelsen and the new administration. John Samuelsen announced at the Mass Membership Meeting that they are thinking of reducing the Solidarity Fund by $ 5 dollars. Well, due to your pressure John Samuelsen and the new administration is now going to reduce the Solidarity fund to $ 5 dollars a pay period and has sent flyers out and is shop gating these facts.
The fight is not over; we have been informed that John Samuelsen and the New Administration have taken approximately $95,000 dollars from the sale of the building to give to COPE. COPE is traditionally donations that are requested from the membership on a voluntary basis. The money from the sale of the building is also money that belongs to the members therefore; members should have also been surveyed to determine if they approved with the contribution coming from these funds. The taking of $95,000 from the building sale to pay COPE funds is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
We have been informed that at the recent Power Division meeting it was revealed by DeCarmilis, Power Division Chair that the so call building that was purchased was not approved by the International consequently; they cannot do anything with that building. As a Trade Union you must place the member’s interest first however; John Samuelsen and the New Administration have only demonstrated self interest.  The first revelation was when they took office and increased their salaries, second there was no fight to keep our brothers and sisters from being laid off, and next he manipulated the Solidarity Fund Election and hijacked $10 from the membership  in the guise of a Solidarity Fund and then switched it to a dues increased without their approval. One could only wonder what else he has done and/or plans to do.
Well stay tuned!  We will continue to make sure your rights are protected!
