To the Editor:
It didn’t take long for John Samuelsen to take a defensive position. Upon taking office, rather than lead the fight against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, he hired anyone who could potentially run against him in the next election. His administration is in shambles. The membership is homeless as they have their union meetings at the YMCA, and some divisions are time-sharing their Bloomberg cubicles at 1700 Broadway.
Samuelsen’s administration was rocked by COPE scandals which included out-of-state candidates, and yet he still took $96,000 from the building fund to use for political-education work. The Transport Workers Union International won’t touch this money, as COPE is voluntary and the building fund is not. Samuelsen has now commingled the funds.
The Solidarity Fund took in too much money, as not enough members applied for benefits, so that money has to be returned to the contributors. How much of a refund can we expect? Did everyone contribute the same? Was everyone in pay status? Can Samuelsen find all the contributors? Has he even thought about any of this?
Samuelsen attacked Roger Toussaint for hiring the losers of the election, yet under his watch all you would have to do is run for vice president or president and you would receive a high-paying job. You don’t need to win; just run.
As Samuelsen tried to dodge the criminal investigation targeting him, TWU properties voted to go non-union rather than be represented by Samuelsen’s TWU. How’s that for organizing? Samuelsen is the guy who is supposed to take on the MTA for us.Well I got news for you: Track Division,
which is where he comes out of, is beginning a five-year pick. That’s the thanks we get for him purchasing his groceries on our TWU credit card.
The writing’s on the wall. Samuelsen’s presidency is a sham. The TWU’s mass-membership meeting was taken over by ATU’s International President and the TWU’s Widow and Orphans Fund gala honored ATU.
I guess there aren’t any TWU locals we can honor?

ReplyDeletethere was no $96k sent to COPE. Tommy is a professional liar.
Tommy only is concerned about politics. Never about his members.
