If John had gone on the web site Charity Navigator, a site which ranks charities based on the percentage of money that goes to the people or cause it is raising money for, he would have found 52 charities ranked with 4 stars, its highest rating. He could have donated the money to one of those, such as Americares, Food for the Poor, The Haitian Health Foundation or the American Red cross and known that the money would have gone where it was intended, to help the Haitian people.
However, after hearing the outcry from Local 100 workers who wanted to help the Haitian people, John decided the best use of our money was to donate it to a labor group with no history or experience in helping people who had lost their home, way of life, family members and been injured and were now subject to disease and starvation.
Way to donate all our money to an organization that wasn't a charity, and your belief that you did the right thing by making phone calls to get approval just shows me you miss the point entirely. You violated our by-laws to send money to a group that didn't do what we sent the money for and can not account for the money while completely ignoring well known aid groups with a history of doing what we would have wanted done with our money.
You could rectify your throwing away of the union money by reimbursing Local 100, donating an equal amount to a real charity or resigning. Any of these actions would show you have a sense of fairness and right and wrong which would serve the union well.
Did any of geniuses read the letter that group sent to the Chief? Detailing what they did with the money?
ReplyDeleteAnother non-issue.
